Freckles

Your red hair and freckles
Remind me of childhood
The neighbor kids with their treehouse
hiding in willows.

But your smile, that quirky smile
is not one of innocence
Brings me back from one daydream
Only to leave me in another
Where I'm again in your arms
My head and heart reeling
This time for different reasons

Later, dreaming, alone
I read your poetry
and know you
Then I wake
